" My favorite song is Paint it Black, by the Rolling Stones."

'by the Rolling Stones' means the band who wrote the song was the Rolling Stones.
So if you Like 'Everyone A Pretty', you'd say:

" My favorite song is Every A Pretty, by Kara".

But if you say that to me, I will laugh!:)
